A footwear label built on sophistication and functional design, Cole Haan took its first step in 1928 with the mission to dapper up the smooth gentleman. A premier American luxury brand today, Cole Haan has extended its range to craft the finest footwear for women. The brand’s dedication to perfecting its craftsmanship has pushed Cole Haan to be a the forefront of design, comfort and footwear technology, combining its expertise in fashion with the R&D power of mega sports brand, Nike.

I find it cool how Nike Air Technology has found itself as a welcome partner of designer women’s shearling boots. My Cole Haan wedge shearling boots isn’t as chunky as the name Air Caprice would lead you to expect. Comfortably supported with a 1-inch platform, the 3-inch wedge heels of my tall shearling boots are textured to match the strip of leather detail that runs over the toes, the sides and all along the back of the shaft.

Built to withstand any weather, I haven’t let the skies dictate my outfits since I got my tall shearling Cole Haan boots. The dainty ribbon-lace makes it easy to wear my lace up shearling boots to dinner parties. These boots have allowed me to finally break free from the default black dress and explore whites, lilacs and even shades of pink! Wearing these shearling boots makes me feel like I’m wearing ballet shoes—only sexier.

On laid back afternoons or days dedicated to errands, I still feel pretty in my boots, paired with tucked skinny jeans or denim stirrups. Flowing tunics complement the laces while basic stretch tees highlights the shearling boots as my outfit’s main event. When it’s warm enough, I push my boots to awesome, pairing them with cute little shorts and old, ripped shirts.

Cole Haan Air Caprice Shearling lace up boots feature:

A combination of rip-stop fabric, suede and leather for the uppers, all made weatherproof

Soft shearling trim

13-inch shaft

Comfortable wool knit lining and fully padded insoles

Exclusive Nike Air cushioning technology

If you want to be a fashion statement without worrying about sudden changes and weather, then these Cole Haan wedge shearling boots are it. However, if you expect to cover rough, snowy terrain and muddy snow banks, you might want to check out Bear Paw’s winter boots line. On the other hand, if you want funky boots specifically to flaunt legs in warm weather, take a look at Ugg’s line of shearling surfer boots.

For me, cold weather spells hot chocolate, woolen scarves and shearling boots. Now, shearling boots need not be those chunky things you could only wear during the days you have to dress down. There are hot fashionable shearling boots I could recommend during these winter months and here are some of them:

Born ‘Dona’ Shearling Boots

Born Dona Shearling Boot

This ankle boot from Born is one of my favorites because of its snugly comfort and classy style. The ‘Dona’ boot has a leather upper in walnut brown, genuine shearling lining, and great arch support. With lush shearling spilling from the top, it doesn’t just look warm — it feels cozy too. I’d choose Dona with its stacked heel and rubber sole over stilettos during winter because while the latter looks sexy, I won’t look sexy if I slip on ice. My only complaint is that they could be a tad difficult to put on and take off so I don’t advise you wearing these at the airport.

Cole Haan Air Caprice Shearling

Cole Haan Air Caprice Shearling Boots

Whenever I feel particularly whimsical, I pull on these wonderful wedge shearling boots by Cole Haan. The cold and wet weather doesn’t hamper on my style when I wear these warm and waterproof shearling-trimmed boots with suede, leather and rip-stop fabric uppers, wool knit lining and rubber sole. Despite its 3 1/3″ wedge heel with raised front platform, these are the boots that I won’t mind wearing all day long. When a friend saw my silver / whites, she instantly fell in love with them and rushed to buy her own pairs in black. And although she has big athletic calves, her Air Caprice Shearling fits her just fine.

MICHAEL Michael Kors Niagra Boot

Michael Kors Niagra Shearling Boots

The weather may be freezing but these wedged lace up boots with suede upper and shearling trim by Michael Kors are hot! It’s so comfortable I don’t even feel like I’m walking on a wedge heel when I have them on. The lace up front is just darling, although I wish they laced up a bit higher. The boot’s tongue has a tendency to flop over because it doesn’t lace up high enough. These Niagra Boots are stylish nonetheless and they’re just the right pair to wear with my skinny jeans.

You might be wondering what the difference is between shearling boots and sheepskin boots. The answer is: there really isn’t any difference at all between the two. When you look at the material used to make these boots, shearling is in fact a sheepskin pelt that went through a shearing process so that it could have that uniform look and feel.

Sheepskin boots and shearling boots are both known as Ugg boots, or simply Uggs. Ugg boots, believed to have originated from either Australia or New Zealand, are popular for giving a good level of warmth, which makes them nice winter boots. The soft wool fibers of sheepskin and shearling act as a natural insulator. Because shearling is breathable, it wicks moisture away, keeping your feet dry and at body temperature. This means that even in cold weather, sheepskin boots and shearling boots can be worn without socks.

There is a wide range of heights for shearling boots and sheepskin boots. This means, you have a lot of options — from shearling ankle boots to knee high shearling boots to tall shearling boots. W omen’s winter boots need not be boring as they also come in a variety of colors and styles, from black boots to lace up boots to furry boots.

Bearpaw Altai Shearling Boots

One example of these boots is the Bearpaw Altai. When I wear my pair of these winter boots, I feel warm and fuzzy all to way to my toes. Its sheepskin footbed adds softness for an all-day coziness while its rubber outsole gives me enough traction. It was versatile enough to run through an airport in, warm enough for -50 degree weather, but not too hot that it makes my feet sweat. On top of that, it’s really cute.

More features of the Bearpaw Altai include:

Made with genuine suede upper and shearling at the collar and trim, it doesn’t compromise comfort for style.

1″ heel / 10.00″ shaft height / 15.00″ circumference

Another example of these boots is the Ugg Sundance II. I recently got this and these boots make me feel like I’m walking on a cloud, thanks to the genuine fleece sock liner. My Sundance II boots are made of rustic sheepskin with beautiful shearling trims. It has a molded rubber outsole, which is good for slip resistance. Aside from that, it has toe and heel bumpers made of suede, which is good for abrasion resistance. People notice my boots all the time and I get tons of compliments.

Ugg Sundance II Shearling Boots

More features of the Ugg Sundance II:

Made in New Zealand, it has replaceable, removable and washable insole.
1 1/4″ heel / 10.50″ shaft height / 16.00″ circumference

With these two authentic and high-quality shearling and sheepskin boots, I won’t settle for fakes and imperfect synthetic boots that compromise my comfort.

It’s wintertime once again. As the temperature drops, shearling boots — whether they’re faux shearling boots, shearling lined boots, black shearling boots, suede shearling boots, wedge shearling boots, tall shearling boots or shearling ankle boots — are the best way to keep your toes nice and warm. These women’s shearling boots are easy to take care of. Just remember these care tips to avoid accidentally damaging them.

I’m sure you don’t want your shearling boots to get dirty quickly, so prior to wearing your boots, make sure you spray on a protective product and allow it to dry completely. Steer clear from stain resistant treatments that are silicone-based. I personally recommend using Cavalier Protect-All Rain & Stain Repellent by Kiwi Brands. It will give your cute boots a protective layer without changing its color and finish.

If your shearling boots get wet, let them dry naturally indoors or under a shade. Don’t make the mistake of placing them by a fire or other sources of high heat. Direct heat can dry out your boot’s natural oils, damage the skin and cause your boots to wrinkle.

To clean your shearling boots, wash them by hand in cold or warm — not hot — water. Do not wash your shearling boots in a washing machine or put them in a dryer. Use a mild hand washing detergent that is suitable for shearling. Squeeze the water with the dirt out. When you’re finished, remove any excess water by using paper towels or old hand towels.

For suede shearling boots, it’s a good idea to give them a good brushing once or twice a month. Brush them more often if you wear your suede shearling boots every day. Suede brushes are not too expensive, so it would be wise to get one. These brushes can keep your boots in great condition and add years to your boots.

I like my shearling boots warm, comfortable, and attractive and I bet you do, as well. Never leave your boots in a car or a trunk during a hot day, especially if it’s wet. The blend of water, heat and being crumpled can lead to your boots smelling musty and losing its shape.

When wintertime’s over and you’d need to store your leather shearling boots, don’t put them in a plastic bag for an extended period of time. Your shearling boots need to breath. The best solution is to put them inside bags made of cloth because it allows for air to reach your boots. Keeping them in a climate controlled room works fine but don’t store them in the attic or basement where its musty and moldy.
